Two hundred and ten centimetres is the width we hold. Every dimension moves: the width, the depth, the seat height, the run of the curve. Send the terrace plan and the sofa is drawn to the space rather than placed in it.
Putting a stripe everywhere on a curved piece is the most common mistake in outdoor upholstery. A stripe follows the surface it is applied to, so on a curved back it fans, and the eye reads the fanning rather than the curve. The Venezia Outdoor keeps the stripe on the seat and the base, which are close to flat and where a stripe runs true, and holds the back in a tone on tone cloth so the silhouette stays legible.
That split does a second thing. The seat is what a guest looks down at when they sit, and it is the part that photographs, so the pattern is where the attention already is. The back is what is seen from the doors and from the far end of the garden, and at that distance a quiet back reads as a shape while a striped one reads as noise.
The base is where most outdoor sofas give themselves away. A visible leg on a stone terrace collects sand and throws a broken shadow. The Venezia Outdoor sits on a recessed plinth, so the upholstered volume appears to rest directly on the ground and the shadow beneath it becomes a single clean line that draws the silhouette.
Ninety five centimetres of depth is a deliberate figure. Ninety five centimetres is chosen so you can sit back into the piece for an evening while the low back still meets a shoulder. Shallower and it becomes a bench, deeper and the back moves out of reach without a cushion.
The internal structure is solid teak, chosen for its own oil content, which lets the frame move with humidity without splitting, and for the way it holds a fixing across seasons. The frames are solid teak throughout.
The seat is a multi density foam layering, which means a firmer core for shape retention under a softer surface layer for comfort. On an outdoor piece that matters more than indoors, because heat and humidity work on the foam continuously. The multi density build is what keeps the seat reading as drawn.
The upholstery is specified for sun, humidity and daily terrace use according to the brief. The cloth is water repellent and UV stable, and its rated performance is stated in writing before the order is confirmed. OEKO-TEX certification is available where the certificate exists for the chosen cloth. The piping is a separate contrast cloth, cut on the bias and applied by hand, including around each bolster end.
