A daybed belongs to the space that is neither a bedroom nor a living room: the formal reception, the wide landing, the terrace room, the study that also hosts. It reads as furniture rather than as a bed, which is why it works where a spare bed would feel wrong. The proportion is what makes it: too deep and it becomes a mattress on legs, too shallow and nobody lies on it. Yes, and it is often the better answer if guests actually sleep on it. The frame is drawn to the mattress.
