Checkerboard Furniture & Upholstery in Dubai

The checkerboard belongs as much to upholstery as it does to graphic design. At SAINT OBJETS, the pattern is interpreted at a fine textile scale, combining light-catching velvet squares with a contrasting woven ground. It is tactile, precise and made to be experienced up close.

Palamède: the checkerboard lounge chair

Meet Palamède, our bespoke armless lounge chair. A generously cushioned seat sits over a smaller, fully upholstered recessed plinth. The backrest inclines gently, while contrasting velvet piping defines the upper seat edge and backrest. There are no visible legs, fringes or exposed wood: the fabric remains the centre of the design.

Two checkerboard velvet colourways

Aqua layers muted aqua-blue velvet and deep olive green over natural ecru, with dark forest-green velvet piping. Sangria combines burgundy and cognac velvet squares with the same ecru woven ground, finished in dark eggplant piping. The Palamède product gallery includes close-up photographs taken from the actual fabric samples, alongside studio and interior views.

Checkerboard armchairs for considered interiors

A checkerboard accent chair can bring rhythm to a quiet room without demanding a matching set. Palamède is compact in width, generous through the seat and designed to work alone or as a pair. View it alongside the wider SAINT OBJETS armchair collection.

Checkerboard sofas and bespoke upholstery

Considering a checkerboard sofa, occasional chair or other bespoke upholstered piece? Our sofas are made to order, and alternative upholstery can be discussed as part of the design process. Any checkerboard sofa commission is subject to fabric availability, pattern repeat, tailoring suitability and final production approval. No checkerboard sofa is presented here as an in-stock product.

Working with the real fabric

A fine-scale checkerboard is not a printed graphic: the surface changes between pile velvet and a flatter, woven ground. The sample photographs help communicate true texture; colour may vary between daylight, studio light and individual screens. Final upholstery specifications and approximate furniture dimensions are confirmed at order approval.

Checkerboard furniture: questions

Is Palamède made to order in Dubai?

Yes. Palamède is offered as a bespoke lounge chair by SAINT OBJETS, with the final colourway and production specification confirmed before manufacture.

What is the difference between Aqua and Sangria?

Aqua is a blue-green and olive checkerboard with dark green piping. Sangria combines burgundy, cognac and ecru with eggplant piping. Both feature the same fine-scale velvet-and-woven checkerboard character.

Can I specify checkerboard fabric for a sofa?

Contact SAINT OBJETS to discuss a custom sofa and fabric specification. Suitability depends on the sofa's dimensions, upholstery engineering and the chosen fabric's availability.
