Velvet is a direction before it is a colour.
Velvet has a nap, which means it has a direction, and that direction changes the colour as you walk past. It is why a velvet sofa looks like two shades from opposite ends of a room, and why the same cloth can look flat in a photograph and alive in person. The practical part matters too: cotton velvet marks and recovers with a brush, polyester velvet resists and is the sensible choice with children or pets, and mohair sits above both for depth and price. Ask which fibre you are looking at, not just which colour.

Do the marks come out?
On most velvets, yes. A soft brush in the direction of the nap resets the surface.
Is velvet a bad idea with pets?
Not with a polyester velvet. Claws pull loops, and velvet has none, which makes it better than bouclé here.
Why do two panels look different?
The nap runs one way. It is the material behaving correctly, not a fault.
