The composition usually resolves to a pair of sunbeds facing one another across a low table, because that arrangement gives two people the sun and each other at the same time, and it is a layout a villa terrace can usually accommodate.
The Saint-Tropez sunbed is drawn low with a continuous rounded base, which matters at a pool for a practical reason. There is no gap underneath for leaves, sand or water to collect, and nothing to catch a foot on. The Antibes table is a four petal clover with no corner at all, at a height that works for a glass without becoming an obstacle on a wet stone floor. Scale is decided on site rather than from a catalogue. A pool deck that looks generous on a plan is often narrower in use once circulation, planting and a shaded zone are taken out of it, so the pieces are drawn to what is left.
