A side table is the piece most often bought to fill a measured gap: between two loungers, beside a single chair, against a low wall. Give us the gap and the height you want the surface at, and the Lavandou is built to it.
An upholstered outdoor side table behaves differently from a hard one in three ways that matter in Dubai. Cloth over foam does not conduct heat into the hand the way stone or metal does, so it reads as a warm surface rather than a hot one. It does not chip when a lounger is dragged into it. And it does not ring when a glass is put down, which on a quiet terrace at the end of the day is the difference between furniture you notice and furniture you do not.
The trade is maintenance. A stone top is wiped and forgotten. An upholstered top is specified: an outdoor cloth with a stated rub count, a stated light fastness, and a cover that comes off. That is a specification decision, not a compromise, and it is made before the order is confirmed rather than discovered afterwards.
The base is the second reason. The Lavandou has no leg. The four petal volume runs to the ground as one form, so there is no gap underneath for sand, leaves or a hose to collect in, and nothing to catch a bare foot. On a stone terrace that is swept rather than vacuumed, a piece with no underside is a piece that stays clean.
It also means there is no leg to catch when the table is repositioned, so it moves between the morning shade and the evening shade as a single piece, which is how a terrace is actually used across a Dubai winter day.
The internal structure is solid teak. Teak is used outdoors because its own oil content lets it move with humidity without splitting, and because it holds a screw after repeated seasons of expansion. The frame is solid teak throughout.
The upholstery is specified for sun, humidity and daily terrace use according to the brief. The cloth is water repellent and UV stable, and the rated performance is stated to you in writing before the order is confirmed rather than described in adjectives. OEKO-TEX certification is available where the certificate exists for the chosen cloth.
The piping is a separate cloth, cut on the bias and applied by hand along the top contour and again along the base. On a four petal form that is eight curves twice over, which is the reason a clover costs what it costs and the reason the silhouette reads cleanly from every angle instead of only from the front.
