Pierre Frey was founded in Paris in 1935 and edits fabrics, wallpapers, rugs and furniture under its own name and under the houses it has gathered, among them Braquenié, Le Manach, Fadini Borghi, Boussac and Thorp of London. Its fabrics are specified by decorators everywhere, and in the Emirates they are usually seen in a showroom folder rather than on a finished piece. That is the gap this collection closes.
The first reference is Bohême, F3978002, in the Quartz colourway. It is a ciselé cotton velvet, which means the pattern is cut into the pile rather than printed onto the surface. Undulating waves rise in soft rose against a darker ground, and because the relief catches light differently at every angle, the same chair reads pale in the morning and deep in the evening. The composition is 73 percent cotton and 27 percent viscose with a 100 percent cotton pile. It is woven 138 cm wide, weighs 1242 grams per linear metre, and has a straight repeat of 43 cm vertically and 34 cm horizontally. Pierre Frey rates it for intensive upholstery at 85,000 Martindale cycles and it carries the BS 5852 cigarette and match test. Bohême is also woven in Fluorite and Agate, and both can be ordered.
The frame is L'Écrin, the club armchair we named for the box a jewel arrives in. The arms and the back are cut as one continuous squared volume, the seat sits deep inside them, two loose bolsters fall where the elbow lands, and the whole piece is lifted on a solid wood plinth so it sits in the room like an object set down. The seat is built on our own spring system, developed and prototyped in the studio, fitted as standard on this piece rather than offered as an option, with foams in layered densities over it.
A patterned velvet with a 43 cm repeat changes how a chair is made. The fabric cannot be cut from a running length and sewn; it has to be laid out, the wave matched across the arm, the back, the seat and the plinth line, and each panel cut to that match. Consumption goes up, and it goes up differently depending on where the pattern falls on your piece. This is why the edition is priced on request rather than carrying a shelf price. We meter the fabric for the exact piece, then give you the price, the metreage and the lead time together.
Production is ten to thirty days once the fabric is in the atelier, according to the scale of the project, the number of pieces and the availability of the reference. Delivery and assembly are complimentary within Dubai on orders above AED 4,000, and we deliver across the Emirates. Every piece is fully upholstered and finished by hand on a solid hardwood frame.
The Bohême Quartz sample is held in the studio. You can see it against the piece at Decoroom, Art of Living Mall, where the design consultation is complimentary, or at our Dubai Design District studio by appointment. With a ciselé velvet this matters more than with a plain fabric, because a photograph flattens the relief that gives the fabric its depth.
Simbel, reference F3667011 in the Menthe colourway, is the second fabric of the collection, drawn from the Pierre Frey collection Merveilles d'Egypte. Where Bohême is a cut velvet with a large repeat, Simbel is a semi plain built on the play between matt and lustrous threads: the chenille carries the softness and the relief, the guipé thread carries the shine, and a cotton thread keeps the whole thing plain enough to live with. The green does not sit still, it moves from sage to a deeper olive as you walk past it. The blend is led by cotton at 45 percent, with 29 percent viscose, 11 percent polyester, 7 percent acrylic, 5 percent polyamide and 3 percent other fibres. It is woven 140 cm wide at 880 grams per linear metre, rated by Pierre Frey at 45,000 Martindale for intensive use, and made in France in the house's own workshops in the north of the country, in a mill carrying the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label. For Simbel F3667011, Pierre Frey publishes fire performance as BS 5852 cigarette and match, EN 1021 parts 1 and 2, and NFPA 260 Class 1, each valid in conjunction with a suitably combustion modified foam. The card asks for reinforced stitching at the seams, which is how we make it up. Simbel is offered in fifteen references, among them Epeautre, Sorgo, Colza, Ambre, Or, Goyave, Corail, Vigne, Olive, Turquoise, Jade and Canard.
L'Écrin in Bohême Quartz is the first, and Simbel Menthe is the second fabric to enter the collection. Others are in preparation and will be added here as they are finished. Other Pierre Frey references can be specified on any Saint Objets frame, and the fabric is metered to the pattern repeat before the piece is confirmed.

We quote the exact metreage with the price, so nothing is estimated after the order.
