Performance fabric is the technical name for textiles engineered to handle daily life, spills, sun, kids, dogs, dust, vacuum cleaners, without losing the look of a natural fibre. The label has been overused. At Saint Objets, performance fabric means a specific category of European-mill textiles: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, stain-resistant by construction, machine-washable in cover form, and structured to last a decade of daily upholstery use.

The studio specifies performance fabric across sofas, armchairs, beds, headboards, ottomans, and dog beds. All commissions are made to order in Dubai, in performance velvet, bouclé, or refined vegan leather, with white-glove UAE delivery. By appointment.

What performance fabric actually means

Why performance fabric, not Belgian linen

Belgian linen is a different proposition. It is naturally less treated, lower in wear-cycle endurance, and more sensitive to stains. The studio offers Belgian linen on request for clients who want a more relaxed, less treated finish, in lower-traffic placements, guest rooms, formal sitting rooms, bedroom cushions. For everyday-use furniture in Dubai households, especially with pets, children, or guests, performance velvet, bouclé, or refined vegan leather is the studio's recommended default.

What is the difference between performance velvet and bouclé?

Performance velvet is a smooth, woven fabric with a rich pile, ideal for formal interiors. Bouclé is a textured fabric with natural air pockets, better at hiding shedding and dust. Both are stain-resistant, OEKO-TEX certified, and machine-washable in cover form.

Is performance fabric pet-safe?

Yes. The performance velvet, bouclé, and refined vegan leather used by Saint Objets are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, including for skin contact. Pet-safe and child-safe by default. Refined vegan leather is the easiest of the three to wipe clean for pet placements.

Can performance fabric covers be machine-washed?

Yes. Cover construction is designed for removal without disassembly. Cold or warm cycle (cover-specific instructions provided), low-tumble dry. Spot cleaning works for most everyday spills. Severe spills should be addressed before drying.

How long does performance fabric last?

Indoor performance fabrics from European mills are tested for thirty thousand to over fifty thousand Martindale rub cycles. With normal household use, a sofa cover can last ten to fifteen years before significant wear. Covers can be replaced individually under the studio's renewal service.

Can I see and feel the performance fabrics before commissioning?

Yes. By private appointment in Dubai. The studio shows the working swatch range across all three categories. Sample swatches can be sent elsewhere in the UAE on request.

How do payments work?

Fifty per cent deposit at order, fifty per cent before delivery. Card, bank transfer, and Tamara split payments accepted at checkout on eligible AED orders.
