Three autumn velvets for the Club 89, made to order in Dubai. One module, composed as an armchair, a loveseat or a three seater.

The season changes.
The module does not.

Every autumn a sofa collection is reissued in new colours, and most of the time the colour is the only thing that changed. Club 89 works the other way round. The module has not moved since the first drawing: a padded block a hundred centimetres square, a low profile, a backrest of thick vertical segments, and a centre element with no arms at all. What we change each season is the cloth, chosen for the light that Dubai actually has from November to March. This year that gives four colourways: Nocturne, Moss, Pivoine, and the Chataigne that never left. Read how the room chooses the sofa, or begin through our design services.

Nocturne

A black velvet that does not shine. In a room with a view it reads as the one still thing, the shadow the eye rests on before it goes back to the window. Nocturne is the colour for a space that already has enough happening outside it.

Moss

An olive green that holds the low gold light of the season instead of fighting it. At five in the afternoon, when the sun comes in flat across the floor, Moss is the velvet that looks warmest. It is the new colour of the four, and the one the studio kept coming back to.

Pivoine

A dusty peony pink, the softest of the four. Pivoine is not a sweet colour, it is a dusted one, closer to the inside of a shell than to a flower. Against a dark rug and a white wall it is the piece that makes the room feel decided.

A modular sofa is one decision, taken three times.

Armchair, loveseat, three seater. Same module, same cloth, same line.

How the module works.

Club 89 is built from one element, a hundred centimetres by a hundred, seventy six high, with a seat at approximately forty. Used alone with its arm it is an armchair. Two side by side make a loveseat. Three in a row, with the armless module in the centre, make a continuous three seater with no break in the backrest. The ottoman is the same block without a back, and it slides in front of any composition or stands on its own.

Because every configuration is the same module repeated, the colour holds across the whole composition. A three seater in Moss is three identical blocks in one cloth, cut from one bolt, so there is no variation between the modules. This is also why a client can start with one armchair this autumn and add two modules next year: the cloth is held on file and the module has not changed.

The frame is solid hardwood. The seat is a multi density foam layering, firmer at the base and softer at the surface, so the block keeps its shape under daily use and still reads as inviting. The velvets are performance cloths, with the rated performance stated to you in writing before the order is confirmed. OEKO-TEX® 100 where the certificate is available for the chosen cloth.

Can I mix the four colours in one composition?
You can, and it is drawn on request. Most clients keep one cloth across the modules so the composition reads as one piece, but a Nocturne three seater with a Pivoine ottoman is a legitimate room, and we will show it to you on the drawing before anything is cut.
Is Chianti still available?
Yes. Chianti stays in the collection and can be ordered on any module. The four colours of the season are the ones we are photographing and showing this autumn; they are not the only ones we make.
Which colour for a room with a lot of glass?
Nocturne, if you want the sofa to recede and the view to lead. Moss, if you want the sofa to catch the late light. Pivoine works best against a dark floor or a dark rug, where it becomes the point of the room rather than one more pale surface.
How long does a Club 89 take?
Ten to thirty days, according to the scale of the project, the number of pieces and the availability of the chosen cloth. Complimentary delivery and assembly within Dubai on orders above AED 4,000.
Can I see the velvets before I decide?
Yes. The four cloths are in the showroom at Decoroom, Art of Living Mall, and swatches travel to your room on request. A velvet decides more in your own light than on a screen.
Is the module the same as last year?
Yes, to the centimetre. That is the point. A client who bought a Club 89 armchair in Chataigne can add two modules in Chataigne this autumn and the composition will read as one piece, because it is.
