Burl Furniture, Dubai.

Burl, a veneer that keeps the memory of its tree.

Burl forms where a tree has been disturbed, and it records the event in a swirl of tiny eyes. Cut into thin veneer and laid across a drawer front or a tabletop, it gives a piece of furniture a surface that seems to move with the light. At Saint Objets, burl is the material of the collectible pieces: furniture drawn once, finished by hand, and never quite repeated.

The Rue de Seine Chest of Drawers wraps a single, continuous block in natural burl veneer, with softly turned corners and three full-width drawers opened by a shallow pull. The Colette Night Stand sets two drawers and an open niche in honey-coloured Mappa burl, beneath a top of Verde Alpi marble and small knobs in fir green.

Mappa burl, a burl of poplar, is warm and honeyed, with small dark eyes gathered in clusters. Espresso burl is deep and quiet. White oak and zebrano offer a calmer or more graphic counterpoint, and the studio holds a wide selection of natural veneers. Because each veneer comes from a different tree, no two pieces are ever exactly alike, and that is precisely their charm.

Every piece is designed in Paris and made to order in the Emirates, in the size and the veneer you choose. For a bespoke veneer or finish, or a piece of cabinetry drawn around a room, see Bespoke Furniture Dubai and Bespoke Cabinetry Dubai.
