Some Studios Make, Others Only Sell.

A studio that makes and a studio that sells ask different questions in the first ten minutes. One asks for your budget. The other asks for the wall the piece will sit against, the height of the ceiling and who will sit on it.

Does the Studio Make, or Only Sell?

The first thing to look for is whether the studio actually makes, or simply sells. A genuine bespoke studio starts with a drawing and a conversation, not a floor model.

A studio that makes sets dimensions, proportion and finish on the drawing, around your room, rather than adjusting a finished piece afterwards. A showroom that only quotes a price is answering a different question.

Questions to Ask on a Visit.

A studio that can answer plainly, and welcome you by appointment to see and feel the work, is one that stands behind it. Before you commission, ask how each piece is put together:

What It Refuses to Compromise On.

The second thing to look for is what the studio refuses to compromise on. For us that is materials and fabric, and a serious studio can name the reasoning behind each choice.

Made to Order, and Honest About Time.

A serious studio is honest about time, treating a made-to-order piece as something built properly, not promised overnight. That candour, more than any brochure, is the real signal.

Frequently asked questions.

How can I tell if a furniture studio is truly bespoke or just customising catalogue pieces?

A truly bespoke studio begins from your space and a drawing, deciding proportion, structure and finish around your room. Saint Objets designs each piece in Paris and makes it to order in the Emirates, so nothing is a shelf model lightly altered. Ask to discuss construction directly.

Where can I meet a bespoke furniture studio in Dubai?

Saint Objets receives at Decoroom, Art of Living Mall, Dubai, where the design consultation is complimentary and a designer is available by appointment. The Dubai Design District studio receives by appointment. You are shown real materials and finishes rather than staged displays. It keeps the focus on your commission and on genuine questions about how a piece is built.

What materials should a serious bespoke studio be able to explain?

It should explain its padding, frame, joinery and, above all, its fabrics and finishes. Saint Objets works only in toxic-free, safe, non-toxic materials and high-performance, hospitality-grade textiles, all of them OEKO-TEX certified. See more on our French furniture in Dubai page.
