Proportion Comes Before the Fabric

Proportion Comes Before the Fabric.

Furniture feels expensive when proportion, materials and making agree.

What convinces is not the price. It is the scale of the piece against the room, and a hand that touched every join.

Proportion Comes Before the Fabric.

Proportion is what the eye decides before it can name anything. A sofa that sits low and long, arms in proportion to the seat, a back angled for a real body, reads as resolved before the fabric registers.

A frame holds that line when it was drawn rather than chosen from a template. Each piece is designed in Paris and made to order in the Emirates, so the geometry is set for the room it will live in.

Materials You Can Feel, Weight You Can Trust.

A few quiet details tell you almost everything before you sit down:

The fabric is chosen for the same daily use: a weave that takes a room that is lived in, toxic-free and low in chemical emissions, because a room in Dubai is closed and air-conditioned for most of the year.

A quiet surface over honest structure is what still feels right in five years. The same discipline runs through our hospitality work and our interior architecture with Noya.

The Short Path to the Room.

Nothing is held in stock. Nothing is built before it is wanted. There is no importer, no distributor, no warehouse, no ocean crossing before a client has asked. What would have been lost along that path goes into the piece instead.

What is left is a calendar. Ten to thirty days for furniture, according to the scale of the project, the number of pieces and the availability of the chosen fabric. An install date agreed at the start. Delivery and assembly to the room the piece was drawn for. A studio in Dubai Design District by appointment, and the pieces at Decoroom, Art of Living Mall, where you can come and sit on them and feel the fabric.

None of it shows in a photograph. All of it is in the piece.

Frequently asked questions.

Does a higher price guarantee furniture that feels expensive?

No. The decisions that show were taken in the drawing and in the workshop, before any fabric was cut. A frame drawn for a body holds its line for years. The eye reads that at once, without knowing why it is reading it.

What details show that furniture is genuinely well made?

Turn the piece over. The underside is where the making is either finished or it is not, and it is the part nobody is meant to see. Then lean into the back and the frame answers straight away. Time finds whatever was skipped.

How does made-to-order furniture feel different from stock pieces?

Made to order sets proportion, fabric and structure for one specific room. Nothing is built before it is wanted, so the calendar is real: ten to thirty days according to the scale of the project, the number of pieces and the availability of the chosen fabric, with an install date agreed at the start. The piece arrives resolved rather than approximated.
