Eco-friendly speaks to footprint: how something is sourced, made, moved, used and eventually kept or discarded. Toxic-free speaks to what is present in a material and whether that material has been tested against substances you would rather not live with.
They can overlap. They are not interchangeable, and neither deserves to stand alone as an adjective without evidence.
What We Can Actually Prove.
A sofa shares your air and your skin for years. For upholstery, we ask for documentation on the textile itself. A wide choice of fabrics, including a range of OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified fabrics.
The distinction matters: the certificate belongs to the textile. It does not automatically certify every component inside a finished sofa. Good material language should tell you exactly what has been tested, not stretch one certificate over an entire piece.
The Short Path.
Our environmental argument starts somewhere else. No stock is held. Nothing is built before it is wanted. A piece begins when it is ordered, in our atelier in the Emirates, and goes from the workshop to the home it was made for.
That removes speculative production and keeps the route short. It is less romantic than a green slogan, and much easier to verify.
The lead time is ten to thirty days, according to the scale of the project, the number of pieces and the availability of the chosen fabric.
Durability Is the Real Sustainability.
The lowest-impact piece is often the one that stays. A frame that holds. A fabric that takes daily use. Upholstery that can be renewed when the room changes.
High-performance and hospitality-grade fabrics follow the same logic: a fabric that survives use is a fabric that stays in the room. A 24-month structural warranty covers the frame.
How to Judge a Green Claim.
Ask what the claim applies to, then ask for the evidence behind it.
- For fabric, ask for the certificate of the textile being specified.
- For footprint, ask where the piece is made and whether it was produced before anyone wanted it.
- For longevity, ask whether the frame can be opened, repaired and re-covered.
Those answers tell you more than a row of adjectives ever will.
