How Do You Furnish a Home Responsibly in Dubai?

Saint Objets holds no stock. A piece is made once it is ordered, in our own atelier in the Emirates, then carried the short road from that atelier to the home it was made for. Ten to thirty days, according to the scale of the project, the number of pieces and the availability of the chosen cloth. One sofa, one home.

Made to Order, Not Made in Advance

Responsible furnishing begins before anything is cut. We are a French studio in Dubai and we build nothing on speculation.

What that removes:

Nothing is lost along the way, so nothing has to be taken out of the piece to make up for it.

Made Close to Where You Live

Designed in Paris. Crafted in the Emirates. The frame is built and the cloth is cut in our own atelier, a short drive from the rooms these pieces are made for. Nothing crosses an ocean, and no importer or distributor stands in between.

Proximity is also control. A studio that can walk into its own workshop sees the frame before the cloth goes over it.

Built to Be Kept

Longevity does the rest of the work. Hospitality-grade cloth takes daily life. The frame carries a twelve month structural warranty.

A piece that is kept and repaired asks nothing new of the world. Rugs keep their own clock: three to five weeks, made by hand in India by generational artisans with more than sixty years behind them. A rug cannot be hurried.

What Goes Into Your Home

A Dubai apartment is sealed and air conditioned. You breathe the same air in it for years, and the materials are chosen on that basis.

Sarah Koben, Founder and Creative Director, holds this standard on every commission.

Our guide to responsible furniture in the UAE sets out what to look at before you buy. The same discipline runs through our hospitality projects and our interior-architecture work with NOYA. Come and sit on the pieces at Decoroom, Art of Living Mall, Dubai, where the design consultation is complimentary and a designer receives by appointment. Feel the cloth. Everything else follows from that.

Frequently asked questions

Does made to order actually reduce waste?

Yes. Nothing is built before a client has asked for it, so there is no speculative run and no unsold inventory to clear at the end of a season. One piece is made for one home, in the quantity and the cloth that home asked for.

Is furniture made in the Emirates really more responsible than imported furniture?

Our pieces are made in our own atelier in the Emirates and travel a short road from that atelier to the home. That is the method, and it holds on every commission: build close to the people the work is for. Rugs are the exception, made by hand in India, where the craft lives.

Are Saint Objets fabrics OEKO-TEX certified?

Where the certificate is available for the chosen cloth, yes, and we point you to it. Certification follows the fabric, so it is stated cloth by cloth.

What makes furniture toxic-free and why does it matter in Dubai?

Materials selected for low chemical emissions indoors. A Dubai home is sealed and air conditioned, and the air inside it is the air you live in. That is why the standard runs through every commission.
